Top 3 Digital Marketing Skills You’ll Need To Be Successful

Sep 27, 2021Uncategorized0 comments

Marketing as an industry is changing daily as technology advances beyond some of our wildest dreams. Many students, entry-level interns, and digital marketing beginners can get frustrated or overwhelmed. I can relate because I was in your spot, not even four years ago. In 2018, when I first started my journey down an entrepreneurial and marketing career, I was concerned that I was starting my education and career path too late in the game of advertising. If you could imagine a carrot tied on a stick hanging in front of a donkey, that’s exactly how I felt.

If you were anything like me, I started to think, “will I ever be able to catch up to the current standards with what little knowledge and skillsets I have?” Well, I’m here to tell you that the answer to that question is YES!
There are five knowledge-based and physical skillsets that could skyrocket your career progress. Those are creating knowing how each of the marketing channels works together, creating marketing funnels or strategies, and problem-solving.

Skill #1 — Knowing The Channels

Marketing strategies are what get businesses from point A to point B and are the maps to success. There’s an old saying by Winston Churchhill where he says, “he who fails to plan, is planning to fail.” Without a well-thought-out strategy to work towards your goals, you’re only planning to waste time and money. This is where knowing how each of the channels works together comes in handy by helping you plan better!

Whether you’re looking to build an all-in-one strategy that compiles several marketing methods together or an in-depth strategy of how you’ll go about one specific channel, it is important to have a good foundation of how all the different forms of marketing work together. This is because someone who has a better understanding of how the channels work together can more proficiently come up with a strategy to fit the company’s needs. To those who want to progress their careers in digital marketing, learning how the different methods work together to bring about success will be your first personal skill to achieve.

Below are some high-quality courses (both paid and free options) that I’ve taken that have helped me gain a better knowledge of digital marketing as a whole and how each channel works together.

Skill #2 — Creating Marketing Funnels & Strategies

Once you know how the different channels work together, you can start building a strategy or a marketing funnel. Sprout Social shares, “A marketing funnel is a path that your customers travel through… With careful analysis, a marketing funnel lets you know what your company must do to influence consumers at a certain stage. It starts the moment they become aware of your brand and continues until after they make a purchase.” Funnels are the best way to convert your audience into paying customers. So you better start learning about how they work and the best practices for them now!

In a sense, you’ve created a journey for your customers to go through that has certain actions you want them to take. This journey is compiled of several marketing channels, which are used in a fluid motion to help your customers say yes to purchase or specific action. Learning how to take a customer down this journey is essential to building effective marketing strategies. Although all funnels might not look the same, the principles of how to move them from stage to stage are universal. It is all done by using a Hook, Story, and an Offer.

Although I can’t go into too much depth about marketing funnels and strategies, there is one resource that I will refer to above any other. It’s a course that you can buy from a company called Click Funnels. Russel Brunson does a phenomenal job at sharing in detail how this process works. I’ve used this course to develop my skills and have used several of their tactics to develop successful marketing strategies for various companies. So if you’re interested in learning how to maximize your marketing strategy through funnels, then you’ll most definitely want to click the link below and start funnel hacking today!

Skill #3 — Problem Solving

When it comes down to it, you need to be able to solve problems that occur within a company. Not everyone is good at solving problems. That is one skill that I think is developed over time and a skill that every marketer should have. Problem-solving is important both to individuals and organizations because it enables us to exert control over our environment. Problem-solving allows us to identify these things, figure out why they are broken, and determine a course of action to fix them. This is the same pattern that you use for every step of marketing. You figure out what is wrong, how you can fix it, and repeat the process until you get it right.

One way that you can develop this skill is by doing a competitor analysis. Check out other businesses and find things they’re doing that you like and things that you think they could do better. Whether that’s watching a commercial, analyzing their website, or even experiencing their customer service firsthand, you’ll be able to pinpoint areas of improvement and gain ideas to improve your methods.

Growth can not happen without stretching ourselves to solve problems. Being able to analyze where the company is at and coming up with a solution to help the company thrive is essential. With every single company I’ve worked for, I have gone in and made their system better by being creative and using what resources were available or accessible.

A great resource that I have been currently reading is a book called Contagious: Why things Catch on by Jonah Berger. In this book, Jonah goes through how companies have solved the problem to make their businesses viral through effective marketing methods. Use these fascinating steps to resolve your business’s marketing problems.
